Destination Wedding Contest 2012

I had such a positive response from this contest when I did it last year, so I decided to do it again for 2012! Here's how it works. If you (or someone you know) is planning a destination wedding...and by destination wedding I mean ANY location outside the state of Missouri. Yes, this includes any state in the US and international locations as well. The bride and groom pay for my travel expenses (flight/hotel/rental) and I shoot the wedding for free. Do the math...it's a pretty sweet deal. If you are interested please contact me and tell me a little bit about your wedding plans....but do it quickly b/c I am only giving this offer to 2 couples. :)

Brittany & Chris / St. Charles Engagement Shoot

One of the things I love about being a wedding photographer is hearing the stories of my clients and how they met. I'm always intrigued to hear about those who were high school sweethearts, then there are those like Brittany and Chris. They have been lifelong friends and met in elementary school! Yes, they were holding hands on the playground WAY back in the day! ;) They grew up together, continued to be close through high school and even followed each other to Mizzou. Upon graduating from college they knew that it was time to take their relationship to the next level. In October they will confirm their lifelong devotion to each other in front of their family and close friends. I am so excited and honored that I will be present for such an amazing event! This past Sunday we met up for their engagement session in downtown St. Charles, here are a few of my faves...

Henry is 3 weeks old! / St. Louis Baby Photpgrapher

I'd like to introduce everyone to Henry. Isn't he just as cute as a button?! I had the special honor of being present at Henry's birth and was super excited when his mommy asked me to come take more pictures after they got home. Henry is now nearly 3 weeks old and more alert than ever! We also got to take a few pics with his 4 older brothers...they love Henry so much! :)

As of mother with a daughter of my own, I am all too aware of how fast the first year (and every other year) goes by so quickly. I have been photographing Miss Lily since she was 1 week old and its hard to believe that she's one already! Her mom also wanted to do a mini Valentine session with two of her buddies from Little Gym. Wow. This was interesting to say the least. I had a "studio" set up in my dining room and had them all over yesterday for the shoot. Picture three 1 year olds running around, oh and Maggie my 2 yr old running around with them. Yes, it was quite an adventure...but we pulled it off and got some cute pictures before naps were needed. (and I'm talking about myself needing a nap!) *HA* Happy Birthday Lily, I hope you have an amazing Dora party next week! :)

Ice Ice Baby... / St. Louis Photographer

So I have to say, I'm VERY thankful that this "huge winter storm" that was bearing down on much of the Midwest wasn't as bad as predicted. Well, it wasn't that bad in the St. Louis area anyway. The rest of Missouri pretty much got pounded with snow...sorry guys! We did get some ice and sleet and a little bit of snow, but it wasn't the "snowgedden" that they were predicting. Despite not being a fan of the cold/ice/snow I ventured out to take some pics. There truly is beauty in everything...even the ice covered bushes in my yard! I hope everyone is safe and warm...best wishes! - A :)

Santa Rosa Plateau - Southern California Family Session / Destination Photographer

I am very fortunate to have a job that allows me to meet amazing people. Last week I was in Southern California for a mini vacation and had the opportunity to photograph the Parenzan family. There are SO many amazing locations to shoot at in California and with the nice weather it makes it even more difficult to nail down a selection! We went back and forth with different ideas and finally decided on the Santa Rosa Plateau. This park is amazing! (I highly recommend it if you live/or visit the area) Back to the shoot...I simply adore this family and their laid back vintage style! They were pretty much up for anything and were open to any crazy ideas that I had. I could not have asked for a better shoot...great family, great location and great weather! To the Parenzan's...thank you SO much for allowing me to photograph your beautiful family. I had an amazing time and hope you enjoy the photos! Best wishes! - A :)

Introducing Baby Boy Florek! / St. Louis Baby Photographer

I don't think I've ever been more nervous for a photo shoot as I was for this one. Tammy had called me a few months ago and asked about my First Year photo package, and also asked if I would be willing to come to the hospital for the birth. I was floored. I know when I had Maggie I didn't want a camera near me! She explained that for her previous kids her husband was so nervous/excited that some of the photos were blurry, so she wanted good photos since this would be their last baby. I agreed and was nervously excited for the big day. Both Tammy and I were a little nervous about the whole timing of the birth and I if I would be able to actually be there since I had a family of my own to worry about. As her scheduled induction began yesterday morning we both waited anxiously. It couldn't have gone more perfectly if we had planned it all out ourselves! My husband was able to work from home so he could stay with Maggie, she took a nap at 2pm and Tammy's husband called soon after. I rushed to St. John's and got there just in time...baby boy Florek was born at 2:59pm! Oh my gosh...it was amazing! The last live birth that I attended I was a little preoccupied to really witness what was going on! ;) It's such a miraculous, beautiful thing...I highly recommend it! Tammy & David, thank you SO much for entrusting me to take such intimate family photos. I'm honored to have been present at the birth of your precious baby boy. Best wishes - A :)

Run baby run...a C25K experience

I have been well aware that I was holding on to some extra weight since I had my daughter Maggie. During my pregnancy I kept thinking, "oh I'm eating for two..." and didn't think anything of it. Upon her arrival I had gained 40+ lbs. *yikes* A few months down the road I lost 20 lbs pretty quickly but was still holding on to about 25 lbs. I wish I could say that I eventually lost the last bit of weight, but as I sit here (nearly 3 years later) I am still hanging on to those stubborn 25 lbs! I have no one to blame but myself. I've been one of those people who say, "I don't have time to work out" and used pretty much every other excuse in the book. So for the last 2 1/2 years I've done nothing...yet hated the fact that I was still holding excess weight.

This year I vowed to make a change. Not just in hopes of loosing those last few pounds but to make a lifestyle change. I honestly don't have time to hit the gym everyday and workout for hours and hours...nor do I want to! ;) I decided to dust off my treadmill and start a C25K (couch to 5K) program. I downloaded an awesome app for my iPhone and hit the ground running! (well, hit the treadmill running) I'm only in my 2nd week of training so I've got a LONG journey ahead of me. I've also tried to cut back and watch what I eat. Honestly, this is by far the hardest thing I've EVER done! I'm not gonna lie, I'm a fast food junkie....love it! I also have a severe sweet tooth. It's so easy to eat crap that's not good for me, and let's be honest...it tastes so freakin' good! Ugh, this is the toughest part...for real! So, I've been doing great on running but not so great on eating lots of healthy foods. :/ (baby steps right?)

So this is the first blog of many about my journey to run a 5k and hopefully shed some of that excess baby weight before my baby turns 3 in May! Yeah, it's gonna be tough. If any of you out there reading this have any tips, advice, words of encouragement or stories of your own struggles please let me know....I'd love to hear them! God Bless - A :)

Tea & Tomatoes...

Snow fell on St. Louis last night and early this morning, I think we ended up with about 10 inches. I used to live in Michigan City, IN right off of Lake Michigan so 10" of snow isn't that big of a deal...it is however a big deal in St. Louis! There hasn't been this much snow here in...well, a long time. So needless to say I haven't ventured out of the house today since our driveway isn't plowed. It's been a perfect day to relax. I've played "doll house" and "pirates" with Maggie and now that she's taking a nap it's time for me. I am relaxing with a cup of jasmine green tea and watching one of my favorite movies, "Fried Green Tomatoes." It's been a great day! Happy Thursday - I hope everyone is safe & warm. :)

New Year's Wedding! - Lisa & Jared / St. Louis Wedding Photographer

It was cold. Very cold. Yet the warmth of their love for each other seemed to radiate and fill the air. Lisa and Jared were high school sweethearts and have been together for a long time. They've been together through everything, both good and bad. This past Saturday on 1/1/11 they shared another special moment together as they said their wedding vows. As I wrapped up my 2010 sessions and began to reassess the year I came across the above quote. It really struck a chord with me. You see, I am very hard on myself in everything I do AND my own worst critic. I'm often wondering if I'm doing a good job, if there is something I could have done better, and so on. After reading this quote I began to think back to all of my shoots in 2010...could I pick out 12 significant photos?

As I searched all of my discs from 2010 I found that I didn't have 12 significant photos...I had MANY significant photos. It truly has been a remarkable year and I'm so very grateful for all of my wonderfully amazing clients! I cannot begin to express my gratitude for entrusting me to capture your precious memories, and for your referrals to family and friends. To my 2011 clients...I am SO excited to work with you and thank you for supporting Simpli Photography! *cheers* Soooo...about those 12 photos. It was really difficult to pick out just 12...I mean really difficult! But without further ado here are 12 of my favorite photos from 2010.

Chocolate Alpine Biscotti...YUM! :)

Maggie has been sick all week with pneumonia so we haven't gotten out of the house much. Which made for a perfect time for me to start my holiday baking! I've made cookies, more cookies and chocolate alpine biscotti! I haven't made biscotti in a long time so I decided to dust of the recipe and give it a shot. WOW! These are amazing with a fresh cup of coffee...terribly delicious! :) I will add the recipe so you can make them too...don't worry they are very easy to make. (and so easy to eat!) I just hope they last 2 more weeks until Christmas.

CHOCOLATE ALPINE BISCOTTI

1 (20 ounce) package fudge brownie mix
3/4 cup ground almonds
1/2 cup four
3/4 teaspoon baking powder
1 egg
3 egg whites
1 teaspoon almond extract
1/4 cup sliced almonds (optional)
white or dark chocolate for drizzle (optional)
1. 1 In a large bowl, combine the brownie mix, ground almonds, flour and baking powder. In a small bowl, whisk egg, egg whites and extract. Add to brownie mixture; stir until combined.
2. 2 Divide dough into thirds. On a greased baking sheet, shape each portion into a 7 inch. x 3-1/2 inch rectangle.
3. 3 Bake at 350° for 24 minutes. Remove from the oven; cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes.
4. 4 Move to a cutting board and cut diagonally with a serrated knife into 3/4 inch slices. Place cut side down on greased baking sheets. Bake 12-14 minutes longer or until firm.
5. 5 Cool on wire racks. If desired, sprinkle with sliced almonds and drizzle with white or dark chocolate. Let stand until chocolate is completely set. Store in an airtight container.

My cousin Josh contacted me a few weeks ago and said he wanted to do something special for his friends for Christmas. He thought it would be neat to get his friends together for a photo shoot, but also let each of them have their own "mini session". It was so much fun walking around downtown Springfield with these guys, despite the frigid weather! We may or may not have stopped off for some beers and appetizers along the way. We are in Farmington this weekend after celebrating Thanksgiving with my family. Today Maggie and Kyle were digging around my parents basement and found some old clothes that belonged to me when I was a kid. My grandmother had made this little suit for me when I was about 2-3 yrs old...a lovely 80's rust color jacket with a matching skirt and pants. Maggie quickly wanted to put it on then found the scarf and hat. She looked rather cute, but I honestly couldn't let her keep the pants on...it was just TOO retro. ;) We went outside into the field behind my parents house and took some pictures. She looks like a little hobo...all she needs is some fingerless gloves and a fire pit! :)

As a mom of a 2 1/2 yr old little girl I know the special bond that a mother and daughter have...so I jumped at the chance to photograph Aubry and her mom! Aubry turned 2 on Halloween and hasn't stopped to look back since. Seriously...she is a girl on a mission! I know all too well that w/most 2 yr olds you can't get them to stop and look at the camera so there are a lot of "on the fly" shots. But in all honesty I think those are the best shots...because that's how they are in real life - not sitting still in an awkward pose with a fake smile on their face. Aubry loves her mommy and will soon be a big sister! I had so much fun chasing her around Faust Park...here are some of my faves! :)

All babies are cute...but there are some that are just BEAUTIFUL, and Lilly is just that. I've been photographing Lilly since she was 1 week old, our previous session was at 6 months old. I always enjoy taking pictures of Lilly, she really knows how to work the camera! :) We started off with some dressy photos then her mom changed her into a more Christmasy outfit. Once we got started the tension was lifted and we had a great time...or at least I did! :) It was a little chilly outside but thankfully it wasn't rainy or super windy. Pink flip flops...

A couple of months ago I wrote a blog about choosing my battles when it comes parenting my 2 yr old. She is very head strong and know's exactly what she wants...the apple didn't fall far from the tree! Anyway, this morning we were getting ready to go to Walmart (which is another blog altogether) and Maggie grabbed her new winter coat. I explained that it was too hot to wear her coat (it's been in the 70's all week) and she protested taking it off. I let her keep it on and told her to get her shoes, she came back with pink flip flops. So I tried to explain that it was too hot for the winter coat but too cold for flip flops...it didn't sink in. She kept insisting that I put the pink flip flops on her, even though she had socks on. I quickly realized that this was one of those moments that wasn't worth fighting over and put the pink flip flops on her. Honestly, if that was her fashion statement for the day, Walmart was the perfect place for it! Keep an eye out for us on People of Walmart. ;)

I've known the Clauser's for a while now but with crazy schedules its hard to always keep in touch. So when they contacted me to do some photos for them I jumped at the chance! It was nice to reconnect with her (we met over a year ago at a photo seminar) and walk around St. Charles on a gorgeous Sunday afternoon. Kim & Gardner are married! / Columbia, MO Wedding

Yo-Ho the pirates life for me!

I hope everyone have a great Halloween! Maggie & Kyle accompanied me to Columbia this weekend while I shot a wedding, but we made it home in time for trick or treating! We let Maggie pick out her costume this year and she chose "Pirate Princess". Since we got the costume it has been pirate mania at our house. Seriously, I think we watch Pirates of the Caribbean nearly every night...Captain Jack Sparrow is her new hero! We ended up taking Maggie to a trunk or treat at the Arnold FBC and she had a blast. She got the hang of it pretty quick and made sure she got her bucket filled to the brim. We now have an entire bowl (a ginormous bowl I might add) full of candy...just what I didn't need! *HA*

Amy & Bob Got Married! / St. Louis Wedding Photographer

They each had their fair share of failed romances and had pretty much given up on finding true love. Both seemed content being single, yet still longing for something more. As some say, when one door closes another one opens...when they least expected it a mutual friend introduced them. At first they hung out as friends, both a little gun shy to jump into another relationship. However, it was soon discovered that their relationship was unlike any other they had experienced. As cliche as it sounded Amy knew that Bob was "the one." Their love for each other continued to grow and Bob proposed this past winter. Amy & Bob exchanged vows on Saturday on a gorgeous fall afternoon. It was simple, intimate and beautiful. Amy & Bob, thank you SO much for asking me to share your day with you! - A :)

Kadi & Nick / St. Louis Wedding Photographer

They grew up in the same neighborhood but rarely hung out. They ran with the same group of friends in high school but never really knew each other. After graduation Kadi worked at Gold's Gym where Nick frequently worked out, they saw each other often but were never properly introduced. Finally fate stepped in and a mutual friend introduced them. They began dating in June 2008 and Nick proposed this past July while vacationing on Sanibel Island, FL. Sunday afternoon I met Kadi and Nick in Ste. Genevieve, MO for their engagement shoot. We started off our session with a wine tasting at the Ste. Gen Winery then hit the town for some great pics! We had a great time and avoided rain that had been forecasted! Kadi and Nick I'm looking forward to your wedding next May! :)

Amber & John are Engaged! / St. Louis Wedding Photographer

Amber and John win the award for "best laugh." Seriously, these two could NOT keep a straight face and kept each other laughing the entire shoot. Maybe it was my lame jokes, the strangers walking around Kimmswick starring at us, or the fact that at one point I was literally inches from laying in cat poop? I'm sure all of these added to the fun, but in all honesty I think Amber and John ALWAYS laugh like that. They are so happy in love and its written all over their faces! I had a wonderful time with Amber and John, here are some of my faves from the session.

Excitement and a tinge of nervousness was in the air. Ryan barely slept at all the night before. He was worried that something (or everything) would go wrong, worried that the unity candle would go up in flames and burn the church down. The unity candle did not go up in flames, Sacred Heart Church is still standing and nothing went wrong. His nervousness was calmed as soon as he saw his gorgeous bride, with Michelle by his side all was good with the world! The day was perfect. Ryan capped off the perfect evening by serenading Michelle with a song by Frank Sinatra...it was beautiful. Thank you, thank you for allowing me to document your day. I had an amazing time. I hope you are having the time of your lives in Hawaii!! :)

Emily & Brett / Pickle Springs Engagement Session

They met through mutual friends and at first Emily didn't quite know what to think of Brett. He was very persistent and she finally agreed to go on a date with him...a group date. While on the group date Emily realized that she may have misjudged Brett, and actually kind of liked him. They began talking more often and went on a solo date...the rest as they say is history! They've been together for the last couple of years, making the trek between Park Hills, MO and Cape Girardeau, MO (where Emily goes to school at SEMO) and recently got engaged this summer. I was happy to meet up with them at Pickle Springs park to take their engagement pics. Here are some of my faves from the day! :)

Jenny & Andrew are married! / St. Louis Wedding Photographer

The weather had been absolutely perfect the week prior to their wedding. Even the day before was amazing. However, the day of Jenny and Andrew's outdoor wedding mother nature decided to play nasty trick. The temperature dropped drastically, the wind was gusty and dark clouds filled the skies. Luckily sides were available and added to the tents and heat lamps were brought in to take the chill off...the show must go on! A family friend provided all of the decor and I must say it was A-MAY-ZING!! Seriously, I was blown away with all the little details and how gorgeous everything looked...it was beautiful. The whole day in fact was just beautiful...despite the crappy weather. The sun did manage to peak out during the ceremony, like it planned to show up just in time! Jenny and Andrew, I had an amazing time...thank you SO much! You guys made my job easy and fun! :)

Katie & Matt / Folly Beach - Charleston, SC Wedding

This past weekend I had the honor of shooting my 2nd destination wedding of the year on Folly Beach in Charleston, SC. Katie and Matt met a couple of years ago and pretty much knew right away they were soul mates. They are both extremely laid back and easy going, which made my job easy! Katie is originally from Ohio (the Ohio State game was on TV while everyone was getting ready) but now resides in Charleston. Her family rented a beach house and invited family and friends to attend the intimate ceremony. There was a mix of southern and norther traditions...red velvet cake, sweetgrass baskets & roses, sweet tea and a cookie assortment part of an Ohio family tradition. The weather was gorgeous and made for an all around perfect day. It was so relaxing and easy going. Katie & Matt, thank you SO much for allowing me to attend your wedding and document your day. Mark and Angie are two of the most laid back and friendliest people I've ever met. Seriously, its nearly impossible to NOT like these two. Our initial meeting to discuss their wedding was very brief but when I met them for their engagement session we just clicked. We were laughing and joking around as if we had known each other for a long time. I knew that their wedding would be no exception, it was as if I were photographing for old friends! The day was gorgeous, a little warmer than expected, but gorgeous none the less. There were tears of joy, smiles, hugs and lots of laughs...a perfect way to start the rest of their lives together. One should never underestimate the speed and agility of a one year old in new tennis shoes! Keira is quick, and I mean QUICK. It took her mother, father and big brother to help keep her in one place while I quickly took her picture. After chasing her around the St. Charles gazebo a bazillion times I had a wonderful idea...stop in Riverside Sweets for a lollipop. She may not have looked directly at my camera, but it kept her in one spot for a while! So instead of a 1st birthday smash cake, we had a 1st birthday lollipop. As you can see it was just as sticky and messy! Keira is such a cute and happy little girl. I'm honored to have had the privilege of taking her one year pictures. Jessica & Jonathon : Crystal Cove/Laguna Beach, CA Wedding

Two years ago Jessica and Jonathon didn't know each other existed. They were each living totally different lives, she in Decatur, IL and he in Springfield, MO. On October 12, 2008 fate decided to shake up their worlds and they were matched on eHarmony. They immediately clicked and began a relationship through email and skype. They had their first official date on April 18, 2009 and were pretty much smitten from then on. They began making the 5 hour trek between Decatur and Springfield every weekend until Jessica landed a graduate assistant job at Missouri State in Springfield. Their relationship continued to grow and Jonathon popped the question this past May. Jessica obviously said yes! Jessica and Jonathon exchanged vows in front of family and friends this past weekend in beautiful southern California - Crystal Cove State Park to be exact! Jessica and Jonathon, thank you SO much for asking me to commemorate your special day and for inviting me to spend the weekend in Cali! I had a blast and wish you all the best! :)

By now most of you who read this blog (if anyone reads this blog *ha*) know that I have a two year old daughter named Maggie. Maggie and I share a lot in common. Not only does she resemble me, but we also share similar personality traits. While I'd like to say that I passed on all of my GOOD personality traits I must admit that I also passed on some of the bad ones...being stubborn, being headstrong, being a little TOO independent, etc. So Maggie has these little yellow rain boots that she wants to wear ALL.THE.TIME. Seriously, I don't know what it is about little kids wanting wearing boots with jammies, shorts, or nothing at all. Anyway, since we are so much alike we but heads from time to time yet I know when to choose my battles. Letting her wear little yellow rain boots with shorts (even if they don't match) isn't a big deal. I know all too soon she'll outgrow them and they'll only be a reminder of her toddler days. Luckily today it was actually rainy and little yellow rain boots were totally appropriate! ;)

Rachel & Dan met while working at a golf club and quickly became friends. They started dating and knew right away that their relationship was something special. It was only a matter of time before they each knew they wanted to spend the rest of their lives together. Last Saturday Rachel & Dan got married at Pevely Farms Golf Club in front of their family and friends. The day was perfect. Rachel was stunning, and Dan was beaming, both smiling uncontrollably. Yet, the best part of the evening (for me anyway) was their first dance. They held each other tight as the slow music started then about 30 seconds into the song they exited the dance floor & came back wearing sunglasses. The DJ spun a dance mix while Rachel & Dan did every hip hop dance immaginable...even the Kid n' Play! It was awesome...totally epic and worthy of youtube! Rachel & Dan...I had an amazing time & can't thank you enough for allowing me to be a part of your day! :)

Heather & Jake Are Engaged! / St. Louis Wedding Photographer

Heather met Jake in high school when they both ran cross country at Fort Zumwalt South. They hung out with the same group of friends but always seemed to be dating other people. After graduating they ran into each other again at Missouri State in Springfield and began dating. Four and a half years later they decided to move back to St. Louis and move in together. On October 11, 2009 they moved into their new apartment. After a long day of unpacking Heather thought there would be no more surprises...until there in their new living room Jake got down on one knee and asked Heather to marry him! They are planning an awesome wedding for next May and I'm more than thrilled to be a part of it! :)

They ran in the same circle of friends and have been best friends for the past five years. Things began to develop past friendship and Andrew asked Jenny out on a date last fall. What was their first date? Farm Aid 2009 in St. Louis! Things progressed from there and they both knew rather quickly that this was it. Jenny said Andrew totally surprised her when he proposed on a rainy Sunday morning in April. She obviously said yes! Crystal & Matt Elopped! / Chaumette Winery Wedding

Crystal and Matt got engaged in February and immediately began planning their wedding. They both knew right away that they didn't want a huge wedding. We didn't want to mess with all of the stress and drama involved with a big wedding, so we decided to elope! They originally had planned on getting married in Florida but became hesitant after the oil spill. Instead they got married at Chaumette Winery in Ste. Genevieve, MO. They were able to keep it a secret from friends and family, no one knew. The preacher, his wife and myself were all that attended. It was beautiful, intimate and very special. I was even asked to be a witness and sign their marriage certificate! With no guests or wedding party to hold us back we had full run of the winery for pictures...it was awesome! It was really hot & humid, like August in Missouri hot & humid...so thank you Matt & Crystal for sticking it out with me! I am so very honored that I was able to share this very special day with you, thank you SO much! :)

St. Louis Shot Party 2010

Gosh. Where do I begin?! Yesterday I attended the St. Louis Shot Party at the Ameristar Casino in St. Charles. The main attraction at the Shot Party was the guest speaker...Jasmine Star. I have been a fan of Jasmine for quite some time, she is one of many professional photographers who have inspired me along the way. I honestly didn't know what to expect upon meeting her. I've read her blog, followed her on FB yet I wondered if that was the "real" Jasmine Star. I was completely blown away. She is an amazing woman. She is competely down to earth, funny, humble, easy going....I could go on and on. I find it admirable that despite her "celebrity" status as a photographer she still stays grounded and true to herself. This is what her message was to all of us at the conference....JUST BE YOU. Her concepts are so easy yet so profound. I walked away last night feeling inspired and energized. Thank you Jasmine for being YOU and for encouraging me to stay true to myself! It was a pleasure meeting you! And thank you to Kelly Manno Photography for all the hard work putting together the Shot Party & for brining Jasmine to St. Louis!

In a world of email and text message the art of writing a letter is nearly nonexistent. There's something very real, very genuine and very romantic about handwriting a letter - especially when its preserved and read at a later date. I recently came across a new trend developing at weddings....the love letter ceremony. I honestly had not heard of this, as most couples do a unity candle or a sand ceremony. Apparently you can buy a kit, which is featured below and found on Things Festive website. The idea is simple and completely romantic, the bride & groom write a love letter to each other prior to the wedding. During the ceremony the letters are locked inside the keepsake box. After the wedding the box is displayed in the couples home and opened at a selected date like 1yr anniversary. *sigh* I guess I'm just a sucker for romance and a little old fashioned. ;)

As I was typing this (yeah, I know...) I kept thinking of this song by Fats Weller. Enjoy! :)

We did theater together at Mineral Area College and we won't even begin discuss how many years ago that was. ;) We did loose touch after we both left MAC but like many other old friends we caught back up on Facebook. How does my garden grow?

There's something magical about growing your own food. It's so simple, yet so rewarding. For as long as I can remember my Dad has always had a garden...and my grandparents have always had a garden. So I guess its part of my genetic code that I too should have a garden. I got a late start on my garden and truth be told I didn't think it would produce anything...the recent drought we've had hasn't helped much either. However, I went out yesterday to water my garden and noticed tiny cherry tomatoes! My cucumbers also have blooms, as do my squash and zucchini plants, AND I have tiny 1" green beans! I'm excited!! :)

So I've said it before and I'll say it again...ages 1-3 are by far my hardest clients to work with. In particular my daughter Maggie, she is my worst client EVER! She never sits still and if she does sit still for 2 seconds she never looks at my camera or turns her head right when I hit the shutter. Anywho, you get the picture. Yesterday she seemed to be in a decent mood so I asked her if she wanted to try on her new dress & pretty shoes. She did. Once she was dressed she looked so cute, I asked her if we could go outside and take a few pictures. She of course jumped at the chance to go outside and I jumped at the chance to take some photos of her. As usual she was on the go and didn't look at my camera unless she was making silly faces. Oh well, I think they are cute pics and will make for some awesome blackmail shots when she starts dating! ;)

They recently celebrated their 1 yr anniversary and jumped at the chance to be models for the day! It turns out that in the mean time she and Jon got engaged so the free portrait session turned into an engagement session! I'm always a little leery of outdoor weddings, as you never know what the weather will do. Here in Missouri it can change on a dime! Case in point...this past Saturday at Hillary & Bill's wedding. They got married at Crown Valley Winery in Ste. Genevieve, MO and the weather was gorgeous up until a half hour before the wedding. Dark clouds, wait..let me rephrase..BLACK clouds rolled and sheets of rain fell from the sky. It really got scary for a minute or two! Then miraculously the storm rolled on and the sun came back out! It ended up being a beautiful evening & I'm glad I was able to share it with Hillary & Bill! THANKS GUYS!! :)

I met them at the old Ursuline Academy in Arcadia Valley for a few pics then we headed over to Elephant Rocks. It was a HOT day but they rocked their session and did a fantastic job! (I was the dumb one and wore jeans *HA*) Enjoy the pics! :)

So remember earlier last week? It was rainy and cold! Within just a matter of days (maybe even hours) I went from having the heat on to turning on the AC...no wonder I was sick earlier this week! Anyway, Sunday was HOT...the first hot day we've had in St. Louis this year. Luckily my session with Lara & Brian was earlier in the morning, but it was still hot & humid. I gotta give props to Lara & Brian, they were troopers despite the heat, sweat rolling down brows/backs, humidity frizzed hair and so on. We were even able to squeeze in a few pictures with their daughter Peyton before Grandma took her to the zoo! I can't wait until their wedding in October!

I met with Andrea back in December to discuss her wedding and she told me that they wanted a simple backyard wedding. Of course at the time I had a million thoughts going through my head..."how simple?" and "what is this backyard going to look like?" Fast forward to last Saturday...I pulled up to a beautiful Cape Code style house in the country which was decked out with lovely fresh flowers. It was BEAUTIFUL!! It was indeed a simple backyard wedding but it was fabulous. AND I'm so thankful that the weather cooperated! ;)

Earlier last week I had a frantic bride who was worried that her outdoor wedding at Vance Vineyards would be ruined due to predicted storms. As the week progressed the forecast changed and the weather was perfect! It wasn't too hot and there was a gorgeous sunset, you couldn't have asked for a nicer evening to get married. Lilly / St. Louis Baby Photographer

All babies are cute, but there are some babies that are just flat out gorgeous! Lilly is one of those gorgeous babies! She has the brightest blues eyes, flawless skin, and she's usually in a good mood! If she looks a bit familiar its because I've taken her picture before! Her mother bought my "1st year" plan so we'll be taking pics at birth, 3 mos, 6 mos, 9 mos and at her 1st bday! That first year goes by so quickly and they change so much! :( Happy 3 month bday Lilly...can't wait to see you again at 6 months!

I love the drool hanging from her lip! *HA*
